scored on a right corner freekick from nearly 30 yards. As the Tibetan Team quickly gained their new momentum, Kegen (No. 18) set up a brilliant cross for Tsering (No. 6), who headed a goal within minutes of the first one. Tsering “Afrie” had scored 2 days earlier against Manipur. The game went into overtime but was called off after 15 minutes as the light around the stadium grew too dim for the players. A long-awaited victory for the Tibetan National Team came during the second half of All-India’s “Governor’s Gold Cup” against Team Manipur on October 29, 2007 at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok, East Sikkim. Right-Winger “Afrie” No. 6 with the assist from veteran Midfielder, “Dawa” No. 9, scored the game’s only goal. The Tibetan crowd roared in applause as the game picked up.
Earlier during the first half, both teams jockeyed for play, but with a strong defense backed by No. 18 “Kegen,” TNFA was undeterred despite numerous close calls. TNFA’s veteran goalkeeper, Ten Namgyal, blocked several good attempts at goal by Manipur’s strikers. But, it was during the second half that proved Team Tibet’s dominance over Manipur. Teamwork and stamina earned TNFA the win. With this win, Team Tibet moves up to the Pre-Quarterfinals against Bhutan XI in a historic match on Wednesday, October 31.
